Discover The Woodpile Up North Eatery And Mini Golf

Tucked away just off the main road at 1408 Co Rd 5, Longville, MN 56655, United States, The Woodpile Up North Eatery And Mini Golf feels like the perfect slice of Minnesota charm. The moment you arrive, there’s that unmistakable scent of sizzling burgers and smoked barbecue drifting through the crisp northern air, paired with the cheerful sounds of families laughing over a round of mini golf. It’s the kind of place that immediately feels familiar-even if it’s your first visit.

I first stumbled across the eatery during a summer road trip through Cass County, and honestly, I didn’t expect much beyond a quick bite. But what I found was a full-blown local gem-part comfort food haven, part community hangout. The rustic log cabin-style building fits perfectly into the surrounding pine landscape, with picnic tables that invite you to sit a while longer. Inside, the warmth of the wood décor and friendly staff make it clear that this isn’t your typical roadside diner.

When it comes to the menu, you can tell the owners care about quality. The burgers are juicy, hand-pressed, and topped with fresh ingredients from nearby farms. I tried the “Smoky Northwoods Burger” piled high with crispy bacon and house barbecue sauce, and it was easily one of the best I’ve had in northern Minnesota. According to a local food review blog, dishes like their walleye sandwich and pulled pork platter consistently rank among the top-rated comfort foods in the region. The menu also includes lighter options-fresh salads, wraps, and even a few vegetarian plates-proving that this spot has something for everyone.

Their coffee and desserts are another story entirely. The homemade pies, baked fresh every morning, have become something of a local legend. I met a couple from Walker who said they make the 25-minute drive every other weekend just for a slice of blueberry pie and a round of mini golf. That’s dedication, and it speaks volumes about the kind of loyal following this place has built.

Beyond the food, what really sets the restaurant apart is the mini golf course right next door. The course is playful yet thoughtfully designed, with small streams, bridges, and even a few challenging obstacles that make it fun for both kids and adults. On summer evenings, it’s common to see groups finishing dinner and heading straight to the greens, ice cream cones in hand. It’s not just about dining-it’s about creating an experience, and that’s something many restaurants struggle to achieve.

Experts in hospitality often emphasize the value of customer experience as the cornerstone of long-term success. A 2024 study from the National Restaurant Association highlighted that over 70% of diners choose where to eat based on atmosphere and staff friendliness as much as on the food itself. The Woodpile exemplifies that principle beautifully. Every interaction, from the greeting at the door to the goodbye wave, feels genuine.

You can also find plenty of online reviews echoing similar experiences. One traveler on Google described it as “the perfect family stop after a day on the lake-good food, friendly people, and pure northern hospitality.” Another reviewer mentioned how the owners remember regulars by name, adding that personal touch you rarely find in chain restaurants.

Of course, like any seasonal establishment, hours can vary depending on the time of year. During winter months, it’s best to check their social media or call ahead for current hours. But in the warmer seasons, especially from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the place comes alive with energy.

From a culinary standpoint, what I appreciate most is the balance between hearty comfort and fresh local flavor. The smoked meats and house sauces rival some of the best barbecue joints I’ve tried across the Midwest, and that says something. Whether you’re planning a family outing, a casual date, or a stop on your fishing trip, this spot has the kind of welcoming, easygoing atmosphere that keeps you coming back.

So, if you ever find yourself cruising through Longville, follow the laughter and the smell of grilled perfection-you’ll end up at one of the friendliest, most satisfying dining spots in northern Minnesota. The food will win you over, but it’s the people and the memories you’ll carry with you long after the plates are cleared.

  • Fantastic! This plane is a seasonal small wooden building with a good truck. There were only 10 things on the menu but it doesn't matter because it's all delish and changes frequently! Their fries are between traditional restaurant and potato wedges and are perfectly seasoned! Great, fast service and the food was hot and ready quickly. Definitely try one of their adult beverages as well!

  • This was a really fun course to play. They have a food trailer here, so come hungry. Then sit on the upper deck and enjoy it. The par structure is really hard here, but it’s still fun to play. Put this one on your must do list. Enjoy…

  • We have stopped here a few times during our visit to the area. Our favorite things were their waffles for breakfast and their fries! Yum! We definitely enjoyed the mini golf, some holes were challenging but we had a lot of fun. Would absolutely come here again One thing to note is that their supper ends at 6:00pm, and after that time they only have certain fried foods on their menu along with all of their beverages.

  • We have been missing out!! Went for the first time today. Food was very good! Everything on the menu looked fantastic. We didn’t mini golf, but we will in the future. Would be a great afternoon for all ages. Also have beverages for sale for adults ;)

  • A challenging mini golf course with great food! I think it might be one of the most difficult in the northern Minnesota area if your goal is to get under par. Still fun though and pretty well maintained. The design of the entire course is unique and one of the few places that uses metal putters, which is pretty nice. The food and atmosphere is like going to a food truck. There is plenty of seating and it has a balcony above the order booth. I really liked the Pollock (I forget what they called it on the menu). Overall, I would recommend it, especially if you want to be humbled on the course.

  • This place is a gem. Absolutely love the idea of the mini golf and food truck combo. The food is amazing. Both breakfast and lunch items are delicious. Super unique and flavorful sandwiches. My daughter loves the Belgian waffles for breakfast.

  • Enjoyed both the Blt and turkey avocado sandwiches and they were out very quickly. Did notice cook was out front smoking....probably not a good picture for customers...otherwise everything great
